- Tokyo’s Narita airport closed for an hour due to typhoon ‘Mindulle’
- Flights cancelled at Haneda Airport
Air traffic controllers were forced to temporarily leave the control tower unmanned due to strong winds. Narita airport was closed for about an hour from 2:20 on Monday due to 128 km per hour winds. 88 international and 34 domestic flights were cancelled at Narita and over 400 at Haneda.
11 people have been reported injured as a result of the typhoon. It is moving north over the Tohoku region and should reach Hokkaido by Tuesday. The heavy rain is likely to lead to flooding and landslides, authorities warn, which could further disrupt transportation as stated in Narita Airport’s advice on their website: “We are experiencing flight delays or cancellations due to typhoon. Ground transportation, including trains, are also experiencing disruptions. Please contact your airline or ground transportation company for further information.”
