Skerries was named best of the 859 towns and villages throughout the 26 counties that entered this year’s SuperValu National TidyTowns competition.
Skerries scored 327 marks out of 450 (73pc) to win the national trophy and €10,000.
The announcement was made at an awards ceremony at The Helix in Dublin. Birdhill Co Tipperary (326) won the best village, Listowel (325) the best small town, Skerries the best large town and Ennis (326) the best urban centre. Each wins a trophy and €5,000.
