Shannon Airport anticipates 14pc passenger increase for Saint Brigid’s bank holiday

Shannon Airport expects over 24,000 passengers during the February bank holiday period in 2026, marking a 14pc rise from the previous year. Demand surges for winter sun destinations including Lanzarote and Malaga. City breaks to Madrid, added to the winter schedule with twice-weekly flights, prove popular. Travellers seek short escapes to counter January conditions. The airport offers year-round routes to the Canary Islands, Spain, and Madeira.

The increase reflects enthusiasm for bank holiday getaways and short breaks. Shannon provides 40 routes in 2026, with five new summer services including Rome, Warsaw, Poznan, and continued Madrid flights. Discover Airlines launches twice-weekly Frankfurt services in April for global connections. Aer Lingus expands daily Boston flights, offering over 350,000 US seats for summer. Passengers receive advice to use the airport app for smoother travel.
