Saudi Arabia’s national carrier Saudia is engaged in preliminary discussions with Boeing and Airbus regarding what could become the largest aircraft order in its history.
Reports indicate that the airline is examining the purchase of at least 150 narrowbody and widebody jets to modernise its fleet and accommodate expansion as Saudi Arabia advances its ambitions to establish itself as a major global tourism and travel destination.
The talks remain at an early stage with no final decisions reached on specific aircraft types, quantities or delivery schedules.
The potential order would support both passenger and freight operations while enabling replacement of older aircraft and growth from the carrier’s primary hub in Jeddah. Saudia already maintains a substantial backlog from prior commitments including additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners scheduled for delivery starting in 2026 and beyond. Industry observers suggest possible configurations could involve significant numbers of Boeing 777-9s for long-haul routes, further 787 variants and Airbus A321neo family aircraft including XLR models though these remain speculative pending official confirmation.
