Air Canada temporarily suspends passenger services to Cuba amid jet fuel crisis in Havana

0

Air Canada has temporarily suspended its passenger services to Cuba due to a persistent shortage of aviation fuel on the island. This decision takes effect immediately and impacts seasonal and year-round routes. The airline will continue to operate empty repatriation flights to Cuba to retrieve stranded customers and return them to Canada safely.

Seasonal flights to Holguín and Santa Clara have been cancelled for the remainder of the season, while services to Varadero and Cayo Coco, which operate year-round, are currently paused with a potential resumption tentatively scheduled for 1 May 2026, subject to ongoing review of fuel availability. This measure prioritises passenger safety and operational feasibility amid the supply constraints. The airline is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as conditions evolve.

This suspension reflects broader challenges in aviation fuel logistics affecting certain Caribbean destinations. Air Canada is working to minimise inconvenience for affected travellers by facilitating returns and potentially rebooking options where possible.
