COMAC advances C929 widebody development

0

COMAC has accelerated the design and testing phase of its C929 widebody aircraft, with preliminary wind tunnel tests underway in recent months. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has joined the process, assessing designs, providing feedback, and advancing certification reviews. COMAC signed a letter of intent with Aviage Systems for the core avionics processing system.

The C929 targets up to 280 passengers as a small widebody competing with Boeing 787 and Airbus A330neo families. Air China is positioned as the potential launch operator. The programme aims for timely rollout, possibly earlier than initial estimates.

Progress follows COMAC’s display of the C929 model at the Singapore Air Show, with interest from Southeast Asian delegates including Indonesia.
