Gulf Air and Iraqi Airways resume home base operations

Gulf Air and Iraqi Airways have resumed scheduled operations from their home bases. The carriers have restarted flights from Bahrain International and Baghdad after the US-Iranian ceasefire has allowed airspace reopening. Gulf Air has operated its first service from Bahrain to Riyadh on 9 April 2026.

Gulf Air has ferried aircraft back to Bahrain International in preparation for the ramp-up from 10 April 2026. The airline has initially scheduled 13 routes with 26 weekly departures. Iraqi Airways has begun operations from Baghdad on 10 April 2026 with a gradual resumption.

Iraqi Airways has included three domestic destinations of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Basrah in the first phase along with international flights to Istanbul, Cairo and Amman. Most countries have reopened their airspaces while Kuwait and Iran have maintained restrictions. The carriers have previously operated limited or grounded services during the closure period.

Gulf Air representative shared “We are pleased to resume limited operations at Bahrain International Airport and look forward to progressively restoring our full network.”
