Roberto Alvo takes up duties as Chair of the IATA Board

Roberto Alvo has taken up duties as Chair of the IATA Board of Directors. His one year term started after the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro Brazil on 8 June 2026. Alvo who serves as CEO of LATAM Airlines Group succeeded Luis Gallego CEO of International Airlines Group.

Alvo joined the IATA Board in 2020 and became the 84th chair. He holds over 25 years of experience in the aviation industry and joined LAN Airlines in 2001. He led LATAM through its Chapter 11 restructuring and emerged from the process in 2022.

LATAM serves more than 161 destinations in 27 countries under his leadership. The board confirmed Mehmet Tevfik Nane as chair elect from June 2027. IATA published the full list of its 32 board members.

Willie Walsh shared “Luis Gallego has been a diligent and tireless Chair of the IATA Board of Directors particularly as we worked through the complex issues of modernising IATA governance.”
