Ferrovial designs world first fully solar powered airport terminal

The airport of Dalaman in Turkey, managed with a sixty per cent stake by Ferrovial, has become the first terminal in the world to cover one hundred per cent of its electricity demand through solar installations on its roof.

The system generates more than twenty thousand megawatt hours of renewable electricity annually, avoiding eight thousand five hundred tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, equivalent to the environmental benefit of three hundred and eighty thousand trees.

The panels also provide natural shade, reducing cooling needs in hot weather. This milestone forms part of a broader sustainability strategy, including ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation level three plus certification. Dalaman is the seventh busiest airport in Turkey.
