Fóras na Gaeilge has introduced two new community funding schemes named Bígí Linn and Glacaigí Páirt. Minister Dara Calleary launched the initiatives during a visit to Foras na Gaeilge headquarters on Amiens Street. Bígí Linn supports under-represented communities with a €50,000 fund while Glacaigí Páirt assists regular social activities through Irish with €90,000 available.

The cross-border body seeks an additional €2.5m in 2027 to meet public demand and support education and youth initiatives. Discussions covered Irish-medium childcare outside the Gaeltacht and adult Irish language teaching. The schemes build on earlier funding increases approved in 2026.

Foras na Gaeilge presented 2027 budget priorities and the need for multi-annual funding to 2030. The new schemes operate through the Foras na Gaeilge website. They aim to increase daily and social use of Irish among community groups.

Seán Ó Coinn shared “The increase of over €2 million approved by the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, for Foras na Gaeilge earlier this year has enabled us to make further investment in the promotion of the Irish language at community level.”
