Ryanair has welcomed a High Court ruling rejecting Edreams’ challenge to the Irish courts’ jurisdiction, allowing Ryanair’s case to stop Edreams screenscraping Ryanair.com and overcharging customers to proceed. The victory follows an earlier High Court order under which Edreams gave a permanent undertaking not to access Ryanair’s Travel Agent Direct platform after Ryanair uncovered Edreams’ unauthorised use of the system to resell Ryanair flights at inflated prices.
While Edreams continues to reject Ryanair’s transparency standards, other approved OTA partners including Booking.com, Lastminute and Kiwi benefit from direct access to Ryanair’s low fares under distribution agreements. A Ryanair spokesperson stated the High Court victory was welcomed for Ryanair and customers over Edreams.
Ryanair stated it will continue to protect consumers from overcharging and ensure access to the lowest fares through approved travel agent partners. The company stated if Edreams wants direct access to Ryanair fares, it can simply agree to the same transparency standards already accepted by other partners.
