Biman Bangladesh Airlines is proceeding with the acquisition of 10 Airbus aircraft, with the agreement scheduled to be signed by 31 August 2026. The order includes four Airbus A350-900s for long-haul international routes and cargo growth, and six Airbus A321neos for high-demand regional, Asian and Gulf destinations. The newly ordered Airbus jets are scheduled to begin arriving in phases starting in 2031.
Because deliveries will not begin immediately, Biman plans to lease 10 aircraft by 2027 to bridge the capacity gap and service expansion plans out of the new Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Adding Airbus introduces a dual-manufacturer strategy alongside Biman’s existing Boeing-dominated fleet, aimed at maximising route adaptability and operational flexibility.
The Airbus agreement comes shortly after Biman advanced a separate $3.7bn contract with Boeing for 14 new aircraft. The Bangladeshi government ultimately chose to buy from both global aerospace leaders to best protect its commercial national interests. Biman aims to operate 47 aircraft by the 2034-35 fiscal year.
