Shannon Airport is preparing for a busy August Bank Holiday, with more than 65,000 passengers expected to travel through the airport, representing a 7pc increase on the same period last year. The airport welcomed 1.17m passengers during the first six months of the year, a 12pc increase on the same period in 2025. Growth has been supported by the airport’s expanded schedule, which includes 40 routes, its largest route network in 17 years.
New services to destinations including Rome, Madrid, Warsaw, Poznan and Frankfurt, along with additional frequencies on key routes, have strengthened connectivity. Ray O’Driscoll, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, stated the strong growth reflects strong demand and the growing appeal of the expanded route network. Ryanair’s recent announcement of plans for a €50m investment in a new maintenance facility and Engineering Academy at Shannon supports more than 400 jobs.
Shannon Airport has continued to invest in infrastructure and customer experience improvements, including upgrades in the arrivals area and baggage hall. Passengers are advised to arrive at least two hours before European flights and three hours before transatlantic departures. The airport offers five convenient car parks and a 90pc “recommend to a friend” rating.
