Icelandair has announced new dry-lease agreements with AviLease and Aircastle covering four and six A320-200Ns respectively, with the type expected to debut in March 2027. The AviLease aircraft will enter service first, while the Aircastle-owned batch is scheduled for deliveries by summer 2028. CEO Bogi Nils Bogason stated next year the airline will reach the milestone of operating its entire passenger network with new-generation aircraft that consume up to 30pc less fuel per seat.
The A320neo will complement Icelandair’s new-generation fleet, currently comprising six A321-200NX(LR)s, seventeen B737-8s, and four B737-9s. The airline aims to operate ten Airbus aircraft by the end of the year, and 20 when the A320neos are delivered. The A320neo and incoming A321-200NX(LR)s will allow the airline to accelerate the retirement of its remaining eight B757-200s and two B767-300ER, both currently expected to exit operations in January 2027.
The airline said the A320neo will be units manufactured in 2018-2020. ch-aviation schedules show Icelandair will debut the A320neo on its route to Manchester on 4 March 2027.
