Loganair has updated the trade the closure of two of its operating base and the ending of all operations at Dundee Airport from October 23, 2026, as part of a network review aimed at protecting long-term sustainability. The airline is withdrawing from Dundee and closing its Southampton operating base only months after opening it. The final flights include the Public Service Obligation route to London Heathrow and regional connections to Orkney and Shetland.
The airline deemed the contracts financially unsustainable and gave prior notice on the subsidised PSO contract earlier in the year before confirming the complete pullout. The final twice-daily weekday and Sunday flights to London Heathrow end on October 23, 2026, with services to Kirkwall and Sumburgh concluding alongside the base closure. Around 16 direct Loganair jobs are at risk, with wider implications for airport staff including security personnel and firefighters.
Questions have been raised over the ongoing operational viability and opening hours of Dundee Airport following the withdrawal. Dundee City Council is exploring options for a future replacement London air link with government partners. The network review reflects the challenging economic conditions facing regional aviation in the United Kingdom.
Loganair shared: “The decision to withdraw from Dundee and Southampton follows a full assessment of our route portfolio and the financial sustainability of these operations.”
Dundee scheduled destinations (ending October 23)
- London Heathrow (LHR): The main Public Service Obligation (PSO) route. It operates twice daily on weekdays and once on Sundays.
- Kirkwall, Orkney (KOI): Regional connection flights.
- Sumburgh, Shetland (LSI): Regional connection flights operating twice a week
Southampton scheduled destinations (ending October 31)
- Jersey (JER): Lifeline service continuing as normal (approx. 50 min duration).
- Edinburgh (EDI): Scheduled flights operating (approx. 1 hour 45 min).
- Newcastle (NCL): Scheduled flights operating (approx. 1 hour 10 min).
- Manchester (MAN): Final service scheduled to take off on August 20, 2026
- Manchester–Exeter route to end on August 20, 2026.
