Kenya Airways believes it will have its entire grounded fleet active early in 2027, CEO George Kamal said at a press conference in Nairobi on August 19. According to ch-aviation data, 10 of the airline’s fleet of 35 aircraft are currently inactive. Kamal further said that Kenya Airways also wants to add a second B777-300ER as well as two more B737-800s.
The airline has been operating with approximately a third of its fleet grounded, which has constrained its ability to compete effectively in regional and international markets. Kamal alluded to the fact that about a third of the carrier’s fleet remains grounded when he declared that once the fleet is back, the airline will be able to compete.
The restoration timeline of January 2027 represents a significant milestone for the carrier, which has faced operational challenges in recent years. The planned additions of a second B777-300ER and two B737-800s would expand the fleet beyond its current 35-aircraft complement, supporting the airline’s growth ambitions.
