Canada’s WestJet completes narrowbody cabin revamp

WestJet has completed cabin retrofits of aircraft formerly operated by Swoop and Sunwing
The retrofit adds premium seating and expands economy comfort cabins
Fourteen 737-800s will be updated in 2026 as part of the legacy refurbishment
All WestJet aircraft will feature the teal and navy livery by the end of 2026
The fleet includes 35 737-700s, 69 737-8s, 54 737-800s, 7 787-9s and 35 Q400s

WestJet has completed a cabin retrofit of the narrowbody aircraft formerly operated by its subsidiaries Swoop and Sunwing Airlines, moving away from an all-economy configuration, adding upgraded premium seating, expanding the economy comfort cabin and standardising the single-aisle fleet across the airline’s brand. The airline will begin refurbishing its legacy narrowbody aircraft in September, with the process expected to be completed by the end of 2027. Approximately fourteen Boeing 737-800s will be updated this year.

The airline’s operations team is also updating its fleet liveries, with all WestJet aircraft expected to feature the airline’s teal and navy livery by the end of 2026. The airline’s fleet comprises thirty-five Boeing 737-700s, sixty-nine Boeing 737-8s, fifty-four Boeing 737-800s, seven Boeing 787-9s and thirty-five DHC-8-Q400s operated by subsidiary WestJet Encore. The cabin retrofit represents a significant standardisation effort across the merged fleet.

The completion of the retrofit programme marks an important milestone in WestJet’s integration of Swoop and Sunwing Airlines operations. The standardised cabin configuration across the narrowbody fleet will improve operational efficiency and provide a consistent passenger experience. The upcoming refurbishment of legacy aircraft will further align the fleet with the airline’s brand standards.
