United Airlines reveals A321XLR domestic debut will be Dulles to San Diego on October 1

Domestic debut on Washington Dulles-San Diego from 9 September
Los Angeles service from 1 October

International services to Amsterdam and Dublin from 1 December

United Airlines will introduce its Airbus A321XLR on domestic routes from Washington Dulles to San Diego from 9 September and Los Angeles from 1 October 2026. The premium-heavy aircraft features 20 Polaris suites, Premium Plus seating and modern amenities. International services begin on 1 December to Amsterdam and Dublin, ahead of further European expansion in 2027. The type supports thinner long-haul routes with higher premium capacity. The domestic debut represents the airline’s first operational use of the new narrowbody type.

The aircraft configuration includes 20 Polaris business class suites and Premium Plus seating, offering premium-heavy capacity on thin long-haul routes. The domestic introduction will be followed by transatlantic services to Amsterdam and Dublin from 1 December, with further European destinations planned for 2027. The A321XLR’s extended range allows the aircraft to operate routes previously requiring widebody aircraft with greater efficiency.

The aircraft’s capabilities have enabled United to serve thinner long-haul markets with premium-heavy configurations. The domestic debut on transcontinental routes allows operational familiarisation before international services commence. The A321XLR represents a key component of United’s fleet modernisation strategy.
