Minister of State Kevin Moran has officially opened the new state-of-the-art Siamang Gibbon House at Fota Wildlife Park on 21 September 2026. The new indoor accommodation is four times larger than the previous facility offering an expansive environment built for natural climbing and swinging. The house includes specially designed heated walls known as cuddle walls allowing the gibbon family to choose their preferred temperature and resting spots.
The five-member Siamang gibbon family has flexible access to a large outdoor island habitat whenever they choose. The interior design allows animal care staff to safely separate individual gibbons as needed for routine health checks and training. The development was supported and co-funded through a continued partnership between Fota Wildlife Park and the Office of Public Works.
OPW support has also contributed to a modern wastewater treatment plant, a composting facility and energy-efficient heating solutions across the park’s primate and giraffe houses.
