Residents in Spain have made 46.9m trips in the second quarter of 2026, a rise of 1.1pc compared with the same period in 2025. Trips with a main destination within Spain increased by 1.0pc and trips abroad increased by 2.0pc. Total spending grew by 3.5pc to €15,729m. Andalucía, Cataluña and Comunitat Valenciana were the main destinations.

Trips for leisure, recreation and holidays decreased by 1.1pc in the second quarter. Visits to family or friends rose by 1.8pc. Trips for business and other professional reasons increased by 11.1pc and trips for other reasons rose by 2.4pc. By type of accommodation, trips with an internal destination where residents stayed in homes of family or friends decreased by 2.7pc. On trips abroad, hotel accommodation fell by 2.0pc. The main autonomous communities of destination for trips by residents in the second quarter were Andalucía with 16.8pc of the total, Cataluña with 13.6pc and Comunitat Valenciana with 11.0pc. By origin, trips made by residents in Comunidad de Madrid accounted for 17.8pc of the total, followed by Cataluña at 17.4pc and Andalucía at 15.0pc.

Total spending on trips in the second quarter was €15,729.5m, a rise of 3.5pc compared with the same period in 2025. On trips with a domestic destination, total spending rose by 5.5pc, while on trips abroad it fell by 0.5pc. Average daily spending was €97, with €82 on trips with an internal destination and €159 on trips abroad. By destination, the highest average daily spending was recorded on trips to Illes Balears at €117, Comunidad de Madrid at €116 and Canarias at €115. The lowest was on trips to Castilla-La Mancha at €62 and Extremadura and Castilla y León at €63 each. By origin, the highest average daily spending was by residents in Canarias at €121 and Cataluña and Cantabria at €104 each. The lowest was in Comunidad Foral de Navarra and Extremadura at €87 each and Comunitat Valenciana at €91.
