The lecture explores the forts, batteries, watchtowers, searchlights and defensive networks protecting Ireland’s principal port from the Napoleonic era through two World Wars. It utilises historical maps, photographs and archival records to show how the coastline became heavily defended. The lecture also highlights the experiences of soldiers, sailors and civilians stationed along Dublin’s maritime defence network.
