Hurricane Rachel and Tropical Storm Simon have forced multiple cruise lines operating along the Pacific Coast and Mexican Riviera to cancel port stops and significantly alter ship itineraries in late September and early October 2026. The severe weather and rough seas have caused widespread schedule adjustments for several major cruise operators. Cabo San Lucas faced temporary closures starting in late September with additional disruptions in October.

Carnival Radiance dropped its scheduled 9 October stop in Cabo San Lucas and routed straight back to homeport. The vessel arrived back in Long Beach on 11 October as originally scheduled. Brilliant Lady of Virgin Voyages swapped traditional Mexican Riviera stops for alternative routing including San Francisco, San Diego, Catalina Island, and Ensenada. Carnival Panorama cancelled planned visits to Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán and substituted calls to Ensenada. Carnival Miracle skipped its scheduled 1 October stop at Cabo San Lucas during a Panama Canal repositioning voyage. Queen Elizabeth of Cunard skipped its planned 1 October call to Cabo San Lucas and headed south toward Guatemala.

Cruise ships have been redirected to alternate ports such as Ensenada, San Diego, and San Francisco or assigned extra days at sea. Cruise lines prioritise safety during peak storm seasons. Port substitutions or added sea days can happen with very little advance notice. Passengers have been advised to check cruise line apps frequently for real-time port updates and safety notices.
