AirAsia is reportedly discussing potential Malaysian government backing for its fundraising efforts subject to conditions. Co-founder Tony Fernandes met officials from the finance and transport ministries in late September but denied that financial assistance was discussed.

Fernandes shared that the meetings concerned aviation costs and that AirAsia could manage without state assistance although it would not reject support if offered. Transport minister Anthony Loke subsequently denied that his ministry had met the airline in the preceding two to three weeks or reached any agreement.
