The number of English visitors to the Netherlands has dropped by 22pc compared to 2019, which media reports say is due in part to a campaign aimed at discouraging disruptive tourists from traveling to Amsterdam.
Visits from Ireland are down just 0.2pc in the same period.
Analysts suggest that the decline in visitor numbers is also influenced by Brexit, and a slower recovery of England’s economy, as well as a cap on flights at Schiphol airport, the implementation of which aims to reduce noise pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Ryanair withdrew services from Amsterdam as a result of this cap, causing visitor numerous to drop precipitously.
The campaign against boisterous visitors triggers warning videos when people in England search for keywords related to rowdy activities typically associated with Amsterdam, emphasising the risks and consequences of excessive alcohol and drug consumption.
