The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising Irish citizens to leave Lebanon as several airlines continue to cancel commercial flights.
A notice on the website says: “The Department strongly advises all Irish citizens currently in Lebanon to leave now while commercial options remain available.”
Similar advice is issued by the department of foreign affairs in Australia. The London foreign office is advising subjects to leave the country.
Lufthansa group has suspended five rotations to and from Beirut by carriers Swiss International Air Lines, Eurowings, and Lufthansa until August 5 due to escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
Flightradar24 data shows Turkey’s SunExpress, Turkish Airlines, Ajet, Greek carrier Aegean Airlines, and Ethiopian Air also cancelled services to Beirut.
The German national airline made the decision “in an abundance of caution.” The airline group, which includes SWISS and Austrian Airlines, has halted travel to the region multiple times since the conflict began. Previous suspensions by Lufthansa included nighttime flights to and from Beirut for July.
Lebanon’s Middle East Airlines (MEA) postponed some flights due to insurance risks. Turkish Airlines services have continued.
