
Michael Cawley, the former deputy chief executive and chief operating officer of Ryanair, has been appointed to the HSE board, for his significant financial expertise and a background in senior management roles from 2002 to 2014 at Ryanair.
Mr Cawley is currently chair of Hostelworld and on the board of Gowan Group Limited. He is a former board member of PrepayPower, Clancourt, Ryanair and Winthrop Technologies and former chair of Linked Finance and Fáilte Ireland (form which he resigned in controversial circumstances during the pandemic), Audit Committees of both Flutter (formerly Paddy Power Betfair) and Kingspan.
There are currently eight members of the board which is chaired by Ciarán Devane.
Alongside Cawley, Lilly Collison, a prominent advocate for cerebral palsy and Kenneth Mealy, a consultant general surgeon have been appointed to the board.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly shared that these appointments are crucial for enhancing governance and performance within the HSE, focusing on productivity and patient-centred improvements, as the board now consists of eight members led by Chair Ciarán Devane.
