Willie Walsh, head of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), criticised politicians for their “fundamental ignorance” regarding aviation by suggesting airlines could easily expand at Ireland’s regional airports if growth at Dublin is limited.

In a meeting with Junior minister James Lawless in Dublin, he emphasised the need for immediate action to lift the passenger cap at Dublin Airport to support airline expansion.

Walsh highlighted that the current restrictions hinder airlines’ operational capabilities and overall growth potential in the region.

He called for a more informed and strategic approach to aviation policy that recognizes the complexities of airport capacity and airline operations.
