Italy’s Ministry of Economy and Finance has resolved a last-minute issue regarding the partial sale of ITA Airways to Lufthansa Group, confirming that a final package of remedies aligns with the original agreement from July 3, 2023.
The Ministry stated that corrective measures were sent to the European Commission, with no changes to the previously agreed economic conditions, and expressed confidence in receiving final approval for the transaction.
Lufthansa Group affirmed its commitment to acquiring a 41pc stake in ITA Airways and indicated that it submitted the necessary remedy package by the agreed deadline.
The acquisition is contingent on European Commission approval of “remedy takers” for certain routes, with easyJet, Air France-KLM, and IAG International Airlines Group expected to assume airport slots that must be relinquished by ITA Airways and Lufthansa to ensure competition.
