Cork Airport has become the first airport in Ireland to implement Deposit Return vending machines (RVMs), aiming to support various charities with the funds raised.

The initiative includes two charity RVMs and two standard RVMs, allowing passengers to either donate their deposits to charity or redeem them at airport food and beverage outlets.

Proceeds from the charity machines will support the ‘Return for Children’ initiative, benefiting six prominent Irish children’s charities including Barnardos, Childline, and Make-A-Wish Ireland.

Cork Airport’s Managing Director Niall McCarthy has emphasided the airport’s commitment to sustainability, with over 700m containers recycled since the launch of Ireland’s Deposit Return Scheme in February 2024.
