Ryanair has agreed to refund Italian customers over €1.5m following complaints about a €55 surcharge for in-person check-in charges incurred between 2021 and 2023.

The Italian antitrust authority (AGCM) ceased its investigation after Ryanair pledged to repay €15 or offer €20 vouchers to all affected passengers.

AGCM had previously found that Ryanair misled passengers regarding its online check-in policy, failing to adequately inform them about the surcharge and automatically applying charges for additional services on return flights.

While the National Union of Consumers praised the refunds, it criticized the AGCM for not imposing a fine on Ryanair for these unfair practices.
