Emerald Airlines reduced its pre-tax losses by 46pc to €11.52m, while revenues more than doubled to €166.74m in its second year of operation.

The airline operates the Aer Lingus regional routes and has become the number one operator at Belfast City airport, with a fleet of 17 aircraft despite some delivery delays.

Employment increased significantly, with staff numbers rising from 272 to 500, resulting in a rise in staff costs from €15.9m to €27.59m.

The airline remains optimistic about its financial future, supported by a solid contract with British Airways and a good relationship with its financiers, despite facing a shareholders’ deficit of €30m.
