Ireland West Airport has submitted a planning application to develop a solar farm that could meet over 40pc of its annual electricity needs, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.

The airport recently achieved Level Three Accreditation for its efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards Net Zero emissions by 2030.

Recent upgrades include transitioning to LED lighting, replacing ground operation vehicles with electric alternatives, and improving runway technology to enhance operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

The airport is actively working to implement electric vehicle charging infrastructure and further enhance energy efficiency in its terminal, solidifying its role in aviation’s green transformation.
