AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines has suspended routes to Grozny and Makhachkala following a serious incident where an E190 aircraft diverted and crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan.

The Grozny service typically operates twice weekly with E190s, while Makhachkala flights are conducted four times weekly using A319-100 and A320-200 aircraft.

The airline will continue maintaining flights to 12 other destinations in Russia despite the suspension of these specific routes, as the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Preliminary reports indicate that 29 of the 67 passengers on board survived the crash, with eyewitness accounts suggesting that the aircraft displayed erratic altitude changes prior to the incident.
