Trans Atlantic flights arriving in Dublin up to 29m minutes early because of storm Eowyn

Aircraft have been reaching speeds exceeding 1,200 km/h due to a powerful jet stream moving across the Atlantic Ocean.

Trans Atlantic flights arrived an average of twenty minutes early into Dublin. EI104 from New York arrived in Dublin at 03.56, EI132 from Boston at 04.50, EI116 from Washington at 04.56, EI110 from Newark at 04.43 and EI126 from Toronto arrived 29 minutes early at 04.34.

Boston was operated by a brand new A321XLR, E1_XLT the St Mella, which had been stranded in Boston for two days after diverting from Washington Dulles. Dulles was operated by the EI-XLR, another A321XLR.

The previous day’s EI104 was even faster, five hours and 12 minutes as opposed to five hours and 14 minutes for this morning’s arrival. The flight from Boston took five hours on both days. The record trans-Atlantic times were recorded during Storm Ciara on February 9 2020, 4 hours 58 minutes from New York and 4 hours 48 minutes from Boston

A British Airways flight from New York to Lisbon hit a speed of 1,344 km/h, about 420 km/h faster than the typical speed for that route, as reported by BBC Weather.

Average flights between the US and Ireland show a noticeable time difference, with the Dublin to New York trip taking approximately seven hours and 50 minutes, while the return flight takes just six hours and 30 minutes.
