
Ryanair claimed it will withdraw an aircraft from Rome Fiumicino and limit its expansion at Ciampino in response to expected airport cost increases of 15pc and 44pc by 2028, along with rising local taxes.
The upcoming Jubilee in 2025 is anticipated to attract up to 32m tourists to Rome, intensifying demands on the city’s infrastructure and transport systems.
Ryanair stated it is reducing its investment in Fiumicino by €100m, citing flight restrictions at Ciampino as a detrimental factor to its operations.
CEO Eddie Wilson said that the Italian government needs to enhance Rome’s tourism potential by increasing the flight capacity at Ciampino, which he believes can handle significantly more flights daily.
