Former Air Corps personnel chemical exposure case settled for €2m

The first of ten damages cases involving former Air Corps personnel concluded with the State agreeing to a €2m settlement in Dublin’s High Court.

Gary Coll, a former aviation technician, claimed his health suffered due to exposure to hazardous chemicals and initiated legal action against various State entities in 2014.

The case was expected to last up to eight weeks, but an agreement was reached just before trial, ending the need for testimony from the 29 witnesses planned to support Coll’s claims.

The settlement was reached without an admission of liability, and while early reports referred to this as a potential test case, later updates clarified that it would not set a legal precedent for other claims.
