Flydubai is planning to place orders for over 200 narrowbody aircraft as part of its strategy to expand and modernize its fleet, with discussions ongoing regarding options for 100 additional aircraft, according to a Bloomberg article.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, stated that the airline emphasizes advance planning and reliable delivery schedules as essential for a successful fleet expansion and replacement strategy.
Although traditionally a Boeing customer, flydubai is open to considering Airbus jets amid current challenges faced by Boeing, evidenced by a recent order for thirty B787-9s made during the Dubai Airshow in November 2023.
In addition to flydubai’s plans, other Middle Eastern airlines, including Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, and Gulf Air, are also exploring fleet expansions with significant potential orders for widebody aircraft.
