In its full year 2024 earnings call, Airbus reaffirmed its commitment to developing a hydrogen-fuelled aircraft, despite delaying its plans for a commercial launch originally set for 2035 due to slower-than-expected advancements in production, storage, and infrastructure.

The company aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and is exploring sustainable aviation fuel as a primary method to decarbonize large passenger jets, though investment in production remains slow.

The development of e-fuels, created from hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide, is still in the early stages, indicating that achieving cleaner air travel will require substantial time and effort.

Airbus reported solid performance for 2024, delivering 766 aircraft and securing orders for 878 more, resulting in a backlog of 8,658 aircraft.
