The Verdi union has called for a 24-hour warning strike affecting Düsseldorf and Cologne-Bonn airports starting Sunday evening into Monday, as part of a wage dispute for public sector employees.
Verdi announced that the strike would begin in Cologne on Sunday evening and in Düsseldorf on Monday morning.
This action precedes negotiations scheduled to begin on March 14, 2025, following unresolved discussions in Potsdam the previous week.
Düsseldorf International airport, Germany’s fourth-largest, served over 19 million passengers in 2023, while Cologne-Bonn airport, the sixth-largest, saw more than 10 million travelers.
The union demands an eight percent wage increase, at least €350 more per month, and higher bonuses for stressful work, citing increasing workloads and staff shortages impacting employees at these airports.
