Two hundred passengers were stranded overnight in Newfoundland after United Airlines Flight 23 from Newark to Dublin was diverted to St. John’s International Airport, due to a medical emergency onboard.

The flight, which took off around 8 PM, landed in Canada at approximately 2:30 AM. Passengers had to spend the weekend in freezing temperatures due to high winds preventing continuation to Dublin.

Among the passengers was Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who provided Mass at a local basilica while other travelers received hotel accommodations and meal vouchers from United Airlines.

The flight was finally able to depart for Dublin on Sunday morning, February 16, 2024, arriving at 4:21 PM, with passengers reporting challenges accessing their luggage during the ordeal.
