An online public poll conducted by Dublin Airport revealed strong demand for direct flights between Dublin and Sao Paulo, with almost 60,000 voters choosing Sao Paulo as their preferred destination.
The poll attracted nearly 90,000 votes, showing that 71pc of respondents selected Sao Paulo over other options like Delhi and Cape Town.
Graeme McQueen, Media Relations Manager at daa, indicated that the current 32m passenger cap limits the ability to attract new routes, hindering economic growth and job creation.
There were 140,000 passengers travelling between Dublin and Brazil last year, a 20pc increase compared to 2019, suggesting a growing interest in direct connections.
The expansion of the Brazilian community in Ireland, now over 40,000 strong, contributes to the demand for direct flights, and lifting the passenger cap could facilitate connections to other popular destinations like Delhi and Cape Town.
