Birmingham Airport has invested £5m to add two new security lanes to address long queuing times experienced by passengers last summer.

The new lanes, operating in Zone A, will increase the airport’s capacity to screen up to 3,600 passengers per hour during peak times.

Recent updates to the security process introduced in summer 2024 include new scanning equipment, allowing for unlimited 100ml liquids in hand luggage while maintaining current liquid restrictions.

The security queues are complicated by the fact passengers are arriving at the overcrowded entrance ot the security lanes by elevator.

Birmingham Airport aims to enhance passenger experience this year and has committed to unveiling new projects and partnerships throughout the busy season ahead.
