Eamonn Brennan has joined the board of Vertical Aerospace as the company aims for English certification of its VX4 air taxi by 2028.

Vertical Aerospace has raised $90m in 2023, contributing to over $300m spent in recent years to bring its aircraft to commercial operations.

The firm has received orders for 1,500 VX4 aircraft, with an estimated value of $6bn, but will only be able to produce around 200 in the first year.

Brennan’s experience in airspace management and certification will assist the company in meeting complex certification requirements for the VX4 aircraft.

An experimental flight of the VX4 in 2023 ended in a crash due to a propeller blade detaching, with ongoing efforts to improve the design to prevent future failures.
