JJ Kavanagh & Sons bus company will remove several stops from the 717 bus route linking parts of Kildare, Kilkenny, and Laois to Dublin City and Dublin Airport.
Eight key stops, including locations like Naas, Kilcullen, and Athy, will no longer be served beginning on April 7, 2025.
This decision follows a review that indicated low passenger numbers at specific stops, prompting the company to streamline operations.
A new stop at MacDonagh Station in Kilkenny City will be added in a series of changes designed to improve journey times. The company acknowledges that they may cause inconvenience for some users reliant on the removed stops.
A written statement shared: “While we realise these changes may be disruptive to some, these changes will in no doubt deliver a faster, more consistent and altogether more extra-ordinary journey for the vast majority of our passengers.”
From tomorrow, Monday, April 7, the following stops will no longer be served by the 717 route:
- Naas, Co Kildare (Poplar Pharmacy, Post Office)
- Kilcullen, Co Kildare (The Hideout)
- Athy, Co Kildare (The Castle Inn/ Woodstock)
- Ballylynan, Co Laois (The Old Church)
- Newtown Cross, Co Laois (Opp. R430 Jn)
- Crettyard, Co Kilkenny (Southbound Bus Stop)
- Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny (Harringtons Bookmakers)
- Kilkenny (Newpark Hotel, Glendine Inn)
