Traffic in the Eurocontrol area rose by 5pc during the second quarter of 2025, reflecting a continuing divide between southern and central/northern Europe.

South East Europe leads in growth, with most Air Traffic Control Centres (ACCs) reporting increases above 10pc compared to 2024, particularly marked by heavy demand last summer. Both Dublin and Shannon ATCs reported traffic was flat, with Dublin down slightly.

Tirana ACC recorded traffic over 80pc above pre-pandemic levels from 2019, while Skopje and Zagreb experienced growth of 50pc to 60pc, and Belgrade and Makedonia saw increases of 35pc to 45pc.

The South West region’s growth is driven by heightened seasonal demand for travel to destinations like the Canary Islands and Morocco, with ACCs in Seville, Agadir, and Casablanca exceeding 25pc above 2019 levels.

Certain areas, such as the Baltic states and Poland, exhibit year-on-year growth but remain below 2019 traffic levels, while Brindisi ACC has seen decreases due to a sector transfer to Rome ACC.
