India has closed its airspace to all aircraft operated by Pakistani airlines in response to a previous airspace restriction by Pakistan, effective from April 30, 2025.

The closure will remain in effect until at least May 23, 2025, as stipulated in NOTAM G0510/25.

The ban impacts few flights due to the limited eastbound network of Pakistani scheduled carriers, with PIA having already changed its route to bypass India before the NOTAM was issued.

Most recent tensions escalated following an attack in India-controlled Kashmir on April 22, leading to multiple retaliatory actions by India against Pakistan.

Indian airlines, particularly Air India, faced operational challenges resulting in additional fuel stops on North American routes due to longer flight paths caused by the closure.

Dominik Sipinski shared: “PIA – Pakistan International Airlines started bypassing India voluntarily on its services to Kuala Lumpur International before the NOTAM was issued.”
