A fire has destroyed two thirds of the Doagh Famine Village, impacting one of the north west’s leading tourist attractions.

Doagh famine village attracts 35,000 visitors a year, making it the eighth most popular visitor attraction in Donegal.

Fire services reported the absence of injuries and that foul play is not suspected while addressing the scene.

The outdoor museum narrated the history of an Irish family from the Great Famine to contemporary times.

Owner Pat Doherty has stated he faces challenges regarding rebuilding due to the difficulty of getting insurance cover for thatched buildings.
