Air India is considering introducing fuel stops at Mumbai International or Ahmedabad to address challenges caused by the closure of Pakistani airspace on April 24.

Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson shared progress in finding alternatives to enhance non-stop operations from Delhi International to North America.

Currently, flights from Delhi and Mumbai to North America are routed through Copenhagen and Vienna due to extended flight distances.

The airline faces complications from increased fuel consumption and longer flight times, which impact crew rotations and management.

Air India incurs nearly USD 600m annually due to detours necessitated by the airspace closure, with no impact on services to Vancouver and San Francisco.

Campbell Wilson shared: “We have made good progress in identifying other alternatives and aim to reduce the number of overseas tech-stops, and restore more non-stop operations, soon.”
