The DAA has progressed its plans for a viewing platform next to Dublin Airport, and is submitting further details to Fingal County Council.

Fingal County Council has turned down the initial plans, requested the removal of a proposed coffee dock while also insisting on the installation of toilets and electric vehicle charging points.

The planned platform aims to provide a proper viewing experience for aviation enthusiasts who have utilised the informal spot known as “The Mound” for around 40 years.

Concerns have been raised by local residents about the DAA’s expansion plans, particularly issues related to aircraft noise and zoning of the location.

DAA managing director Gary McLean expressed optimism about the new facility, believing it will enhance safety and enjoyment for the community.

Gary McLean shared: “This location has been an informal ‘plane-spotting’ area over the past 40 years and we think it’s time to put a more formal facility in place. This new facility would make it safer and more enjoyable for users and we think it’s a facility that the local community will really enjoy.”
