Air India has resumed non-stop flights to select North American destinations from Delhi International and Mumbai International, bypassing European stops.
The airline’s analysis revealed that flights to New York JFK and Newark no longer require a fuel stop in Vienna, with services starting from May 12 for Delhi and May 4 for Mumbai.
Travel times for Delhi to New York have increased to over 15 hours, around two hours longer since the airspace over Pakistan is closed.
Flights to Chicago O’Hare, Toronto Pearson, and Washington Dulles are still operating via Vienna, while services to San Francisco and Vancouver International continue without interruptions.
The airline has faced increased costs due to detours, estimated at INR50 billion (USD590m) annually because of higher fuel consumption and crew expenses.
